The Executive Director should possess strong public relations and public speaking skills along with a cooperative interfaith mindset. The selected candidate will lead the organization; execute public programming and policy, strategic planning and fund development under the direction of the board of directors. The Executive Director must be committed to the achievement of the Interfaith Alliances vision, mission, and goals. The Executive Director has the authority to make day-to-day decisions for the organization and has significant management and oversight responsibility in all aspects of the organization.
This individual should have significant experience in interfaith community relations and be familiar with Tulsa’s community. Below is a job description:
TIA Executive Director’s Duties and Responsibilities
Summary
The Executive Director reports to the board of directors and is committed to constant achievement of the Interfaith Alliances vision, mission, and goals. Strong public relations and public speaking skills are necessary along with a cooperative interfaith mindset. The Ex. Director is responsible for the overall implementation of the organization's goals with an emphasis on internal and external communications. In addition, working with board members on sub-committee work, overseeing the funding and funding initiatives as well as programming and public policy is required. The Ex. Director has the authority to make day to day decisions for the organization and has significant management and oversight responsibility in all aspects of the organization.
Vision/Leadership
1. Provides leadership and support to the organizations vision and mission.
2. Leads the board and staff in obtaining and focusing on the organizations goals, providing support where needed.
3. Has the capacity to articulate a vision or set of strategic goals and objectives in a manner that inspires others to action.
4. Represents TIA at interfaith events and meetings.
5. Holds board members accountable in their respective committee positions and works with board members in obtaining committee goals.
6. Makes recommendations to the board to fulfill the mission
7. Works independently within governance and structure with little or no direct supervision.
Strategic Thinking and Planning
1. Plans and engages initiatives that are consistent with organizational strategic goals.
2. Works directly with the Treasurer to develop and implement operating plans and budget to advance strategic goals.
3. Identifies current and emerging challenges and opportunities impacting fund development and communications initiatives.
Programming and Public Policy
1. Design and Develop with Program Coordinator educational programs for the general public that promote TIA’s mission and goals to include: public forums, movies, guest speakers.
2. Be prepared, educated, and ready to provide a rapid response to the public in the form of public statements and press releases.
3. Develop relationships and connections with media representatives and interfaith leaders.
Fund Development
1. The capacity and commitment to engage in diverse fund development initiatives (mail campaigns, personal calls, public announcements).
2. Develops a sound strategy for raising the funds necessary to support TIA’s initiatives.
3. A commitment to ongoing financial growth.
4. The ability to write and apply for grants.
5. Works directly with the Treasurer on financial issues and provides board with monthly, reconciled and accurate financial.
6. Keeps expenses within approved budget.
Communications
1. Responsible for managing the communication efforts to members and the public at large via emails, the newsletter, web page, public statements and marketing initiatives in the community.
2. Establishing sound working relationships with community groups and organizations.
3. The commitment to engage in regular, ongoing internal communications initiatives with board, staff, and members.
Human Resources
1. The capacity to secure, manage and retain the human resources necessary to implement obtain organizational goals including: event volunteers, public speakers and secretarial assistance.
2. Provides adequate personal and professional training and support to staff and volunteers.
Board Development
1. An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of board members as well as sub-committees.
2. The capacity to recruit, develop and nurture a diverse board comprised of leaders from all sectors of the interfaith community.
3. Communicates regularly with the board members keeping them fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.
4. Engages board members in efforts to enhance their personal growth and development on the board and on sub-committees.
Commitment
Part-time position requiring 20 – 25 hours per week.
Financial situation compatible with part-time employment.
Computer Skills necessary.
The Ex. Director should be available to the general public/interfaith community as well as board members during office hours. Office hours are Monday thru Friday from 9:00 – 1:00/2:00 in TIA’s office (7lst and Yale) along side a part-time secretary and community volunteers.
