Friar Louis Cappio must live

Friar Louis Cappio must live

Cesar Benjamin

I look for a book on the bookshelf at home. In the face sheet I read: "To Cesar, who also walks on the same side of the same river. Gentio do Ouro, October 2001. "From inside the book falls a card that was already forgotten:" Cesar, grateful for your unexpected softness, for your lucid and firm presence. Thank you for you there. I hug you. Adriano. "I can't contain my emotion.

Between 1992 and 1993, for a year, Adriano and three more people held a walk of 2,700 km, from the springs to the mouth of San Francisco river. The book, which they gave me when I visited them in the desert-From the mouth to the source, the message of the river, Nancy Mangabeira Unger-poetically tells the works of this group of heroes whose lives are confused with the struggle for life of the river and of populations that depend on it.

Outrage is Sweeping Hawai'i

“The Strykers and the legacy they would leave are not welcome on Hawai’i.”

Krisztine Samu is an outraged Hawai’i resident and tells the Army so during public testimony at the U.S. Army Stryker Brigade Public Hearings in Waimea, on September 26, 2007. She is outraged by the military’s shameless and continued contamination of her home, Hawai’i Island…

Please help us Protect Hawai’i. Write the Army before October 30, 2007. Army at: PublicComments@aec.apgea.army.mil

National Monument Discovered at Tara in Path of M3 Motorway (Ireland)

Background:
Last month, archaeologists working on the path of a proposed roadway at Lismullin, Co. Meath, in Ireland, found a "national monument," a prehistoric site

Indymedia Ireland story on find

Archaeological experts believe this find could be one of the most significant archaeological discoveries unearthed in Ireland, and might be the site of a structure similar to Stonehenge but made with wood.

Archaeologists state that the site is most likely a wooden ‘henge’ used for ritual ceremonies. It is also understood that a burial mound has been discovered, which was the final resting place of a woman of high status. If confirmed, this is the first example of such a site found in Ireland.

Future of Internet radio in jeopardy

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help! H.R. 2060, The Internet Radio Equality Act was introduced by Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Donald Manzullo (R-IL ) to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your congressperson to ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 2060 by clicking below.

CALL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON NOW TO ASK THEM TO CO-SPONSOR H.R. 2060, THE INTERNET RADIO EQUALITY ACT.

Act Now to Support Moratorium on Crosstown Project

From Tom Elmore:

URGENT: Calls, e-mails, faxes, letters needed to support HCR 1032!

Alright, folks -- here it is: Former OKC City Councilman and now Republican House member Guy Liebman is reportedly prevailing on Republican leadership, specifically Ardmore Rep. Greg Piatt (floor leader) NOT to hear House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 1032 (see text, below, and Bob Waldrop's excellent "mass transit talking points"), the resolution asking the governor to suspend and investigate the "New Crosstown."

We need a flood of calls, letters, faxes and e-mails to Speaker of the House Lance Cargill (who, from his law office in Harrah, a town on the Rock Island line to Union Station has expressed opposition to the New Crosstown plan to destroy the Union Station rail yard) and to Rep. Greg Piatt (Ardmore banker -- Ardmore is on the Santa Fe / Heartland Flyer line, also linked to Union Station...). Tell them what you think of HCR 1032. If you think it worthwhile, it must be heard.

Write and call your own state legislators, as well.

Dan Boren votes against DC voting rights

Dan BorenDan Boren of Oklahoma (District 2) was one of only six Congresspeople to vote against giving the District of Columbia full voting rights in the chamber. The bill passed the House 241 to 177. It is expected to face difficulties in the Senate, and President Bush vows to veto it if it comes to his desk.

Giving representation to DC has been sought for years by advocates. Residents of the district are overwhelmingly Democratic and to balance the new D member, the legislation also added a member from Utah, which is mostly Republican.

Rep. Boren can be contacted here.
